Orofacial Myofunctional Therapy

What is Orofacial Myofunctional Therapy (OMT)? OMT is the assessment and treatment of the muscles of the face and how improper use of the muscles impacts dentition, speech, chewing, and swallowing. OMT helps to strengthen and coordinate the muscles to work together properly so that they are balanced. How do I know if my child needs orofacial myofunctional therapy? Your child may need orofacial myofunctional therapy if he/she: -Tongue thrusts while swallowing   -Mouth breathes -Has a thumb/finger sucking habit -Has a tongue tie -Uses a pacifier beyond 12 months of age -Teeth grinds -Has an orthodontic relapse -Has jaw pain -Has chronic congestion or allergies  -Has speech sound errors or distortions
