What is Orofacial Myofunctional Therapy (OMT)?

 

OMT is the assessment and treatment of the muscles of the face and how improper use of the muscles impacts dentition, speech, chewing, and swallowing. OMT helps to strengthen the muscles to work together properly so that they are balanced.

How do I know if my child needs an orofacial myofunctional evaluation?

Your child may need an orofacial myofunctional evaluation if he/she:

Tongue thrusts while swallowing  
Mouth breathes
Prolonged pacifier use or bottle use
Has a thumb/finger sucking habit
Has a tongue tie
Teeth grinding
Orthodontic relapse
Chronic congestion or allergies 
Has speech sound errors or distortions
